New anti-SPAM email measures.

General NewsFor people who have email accounts at enfusion-group, there's a new feature that I'm testing out on a per-account basis.

If you receive lots of unsolicited email, or SPAM, then you're a good candidate for helping to test it out.

If you're interested, drop me a line. Read more to find out how it works.

I've started implementing SpamAssassin on an individual basis. SpamAssassin is a heuristic email filter that has a database with a number of common items found in most email that is SPAM.

It applies a weight to each matching item it finds in a particular email as it scans it and after scanning finishes, if the total weight exceeds a set threshold the message is marked as SPAM.

When marked as SPAM, not only does SpamAssassin alter the subject line of the message to include the text "****SPAM****", but it also adds a number of new headers, indicating the tests that it ran that matched, the weight attributed to each, and also the total weight and threshold.

Using these items, it is easy to filter these messages into another folder so that you don't see them in your Inbox, but can still make sure there are no false-positives later.
