So I'm finally going to

  • So I'm finally going to have a few days off, after having been working the last 14 days consecutively. It's all part of a master plan to take a good long break in April when Kelly's heading to Ottawa for a stint at Health Canada. It's been a pretty long haul!
  • I've actually been playing a lot of StarCraft again lately, with my cousin Wendy. After a dinner outing a few weeks back with Wendy and Neal, I setup a Battle Net server which we've been testing out over the past little while. There are a number of hitches, especially the fact that StarCraft was designed back in an age before network gaming over TCP/IP was the thing to do. In any case, there was a huge issue of latency when two people attempted to play in the same game from behind one IP address. On quite a bit of investigation, it turns out that the problem is an old classic problem that requires some network-address translation tricks to fix.
  • I've changed my SpamAssassin setup so that it runs as the user receiving the email, instead of one global user by setting everyone up to use procmail, and creating a global procmailrc that's run before each users own. This means that each email account can have it's own customized SpamAssassin settings, whitelists, blacklists and thresholds. There's even a page where settings can be viewed and modified.
  • Started overhauling the MP3 engine again. There's a reporting page now that shows who's been streaming what, when, and what the most popular songs that are being streamed are (strictly on the number of hits). It tries to differentiate between a song being repeated in the player, and being clicked on multiple times from the web page. Eventually, I'd like to have virtual folders that dynamically populate themselves with your favourite tunes over the past week or month. Soon, version 2 will be underway, a pretty significant rewrite.
  • In other news, the house is coming along nicely. The cabinets and counter tops are now in the house, but not yet installed.
